FURNA

FURNA (Functions of RNAs) is a database of ligand-RNA interactions and Gene Ontology annotations for RNAs in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Each entry in FURNA contains a comprehensive list of annotations on:

  • Ligand-binding sites;
  • Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Enzyme Commission (EC) numbers;
  • Rfam families;
  • Motifs for protein binding from the ATtRACT database;
  • Secondary structure assignments from CSSR and DSSR;
  • Cross reference to external databases, including RCSB PDB, PDBe, PDBj, PDBsum, NAKB, DNATCO, BGSU RNA, QuickGO, ChEMBL, DrugBank, ZINC, UniProt, PubMed, RNAcentral.

    Database statistics

    The database is updated weekly and the current version (2025-02-22) contains:
  • Number of ligand-RNA interactions: 458382
  • Number of regular ligand-RNA interactions: 34976
  • Number of metal-ion-RNA interactions: 225015
  • Number of protein-RNA interactions: 168241
  • Number of DNA-RNA interactions: 1073
  • Number of RNA-RNA interactions: 29077
  • Number of types of ligands: 595
  • Number of RNAs: 19236
  • Number of RNAs with Enzyme Commission (EC) numbers: 95
  • Number of RNAs with Gene Ontology (GO) terms: 11384 (10585 with Molecular Function, 3576 with Biological Process, and 7645 with Cellular Component)
  • Number of RNAs with ATtRACT motifs for protein binding: 1853
  • Number of RNAs with Rfam families: 11578
